..Who doesn't love taking a Safari? You get to venture into exotic lands and mingle with the natives. Broadening your horizons by learning their cultures and customs. And then you get to massacre
them!
In theory, a Safari is a nice easy stroll full of fun and excitement. But in practice, getting a corp to invite you can be as lame as a bag full of dicks and balls. Its been my experience that HighSec Corps, generally speaking, have tightened up on their recruitment standards. Compared to a few years ago when any -3.0 sec, 500mil bounty pilot would get invited to a majority of Corps for mining ops or to fleet with a purple mission runner. I end up talking to a lot of recruitment officers in a week, so maybe I’m just remembering all the “hell no gtfo” more then the
“yeah submit your app. I’ll freighter your stuff for you too!”.
But at any rate, confidence and your story can make of break your Safari registration. Your Story, Not your real story, that you intend on getting in the corp to rape and pillage until down time. I’m talking about your persona’s story.
Once upon a time I was a HighSec carebear. I know, I’m ashamed at myself too. But I’m one who likes to use everything to its full potential. So I sell my excellent mining skills, manufacturing skills, and my Orca skills. When I’m trying to get into an indy corp, my persona is one of your typical hardcore HighSec indy carebear who absolutely loves to mine and will provide Orca boosts anytime the corp wants. I pretty much become a mining corps wet dream.
Often while I’m browsing the Recruitment channel or forum, I’ll chance upon brand new CEOs with unlikely dreams and are looking for members to join their one man Corp that is “close” to becoming huge and successful. A believable and very profitable persona I employ on such targets to great success is that of an astute manufacturer with charts and graphs, profit margins and ISK/ slot ISK/ day schedules. I’ll even link a few researched blueprints off of the contracts market as “proof” that I have experience and assets in this field. I’m telling him the exact way to make his HighSec Empire dreams come true, and they are usually awestruck with my expert bullshit. I’ll usually try to get roles, director hopefully, solely on me selling myself as a production manager who will run the industry show for his corp. With any luck I will very soon be in possession of all the corp shares, a blueprint or two, half a billion ISK that he’s fronted to start the manufacturing jobs, and a nice kill mail.
Sometimes whilst completely in a persona I will almost start believing my own bullshit, getting wrapped up in how much ISK this Corp could make with a little blood sweat and tears! But in the end I get invited into the Corp and kill whatever I can. I’m not much for Industry.
To sum it all up, make a believable story that is applicable to your target Corp. use any and all of your skills and assets that help you sell your story. And then sell the hell out of yourself. Become whatever persona you've chosen and sell it. Be a Confidence Man.
Fly it like you stole it! (and hopefully, you did!)
